Second language acquisition research over the past two decades has seen a proliferation of L2 classrooms studies (Doughty & Williams, 1998a) and experimental studies in laboratory settings (Hulstijn, 1997) which investigate the effectiveness of various instructional techniques known under the rubric of focus on form (Long, 1991). Although L2 instruction of several types have been proposed under somewhat different conceptualizations of this principle, a strict notion of focus on form as originally conceived (Long, 1991; Long y Robinson, 1998) favors implicit L2 instructional interventions over explicit ones.
