Objective: We try to verify that bilateral catarct surgery does not produce more complications than unilateral surgery. Materials and methods: We have developed a retrospective study on 1,308 eyes after bilateral (simultaneous) cataract surgery. Both eyes are operated as if they were independent processes or different patients. Results: These are the complications found: Intraoperative: Iris herniation in 27 eyes (0.20%), transient hyphema in 13 eyes (0.099%), posterior capsule rupture in 44 eyes (0.33%) from which 33 (0.25%) needed a vitrectomy afterwards.
