This work is part of a broader research which intends both to have real information about crime in San Luis and the perception the young have about it, and to explore the feeling of unsafety and risk of victimization. The fear of crime as a subjective dimension of criminality with its cognitive, emotional and behavioral psychological components is assessed. This work presents the conclusions reached in a first approach to standardization of a specific instrument of psychological assessment during the period 1999-2002, and from 2003 onwards: a questionnaire which assesses the feeling of urban unsafety (Cuestionario de Inseguridad Urbana, CIU).
