Recycling high culture in science fiction : Homer and Shakespeare in Dan Simmons's Ilium and Olympos

In this dissertation I discuss the way SF, and more specifically Dan Simmons, brings a new perspective to the postmodern debate of high vs. low culture. To do so, I analyze the way readers with different cultural backgrounds will tend to react to the use high culture in SF, a literature still considered 'low' by many. In addition, I also discuss how the specific approach of the author allows for new reinterpretations of the debate by putting high and low culture at the same narrative level.En aquesta dissertació es discuteix de quina manera la Ciència Ficció, i concretament en Dan Simmons, ofereix una nova perspectiva respecte al debat postmodern d'alta cultura vs. Baixa cultura. Per fer això, analitzo la manera en la que lectors amb diferents rerefons culturals tendeixen a reaccionar a l'ús de l'alta cultura a la Ciència Ficció, un gènere considerat 'popular' encara avui dia. A més, també es discuteix com l'enfocament específic de l'autor permet fer noves reinterpretacions del debat al posar l'alta i la baixa cultura a un mateix nivel narratiu
