The evident importance of the family business in almost every economy of the world, and the recognition of the succession as the main threat for this type of organization, have caused this problem to be approached from various points of view. These different perspectives are normally related to the participants in this process, mainly the entrepreneur or predecessor, the successor, and other agents involved both in the family system and the business system. Por consiguiente, en el artículo se analizan los múltiples factores que se han identificado en la literatura como influencias en el proceso de sucesión, intentando discriminar cuáles determinan realmente el éxito o el fracaso y descubrir qué interelaciones existen entre los mismo
