Inmigración y escolarización en la Región de Murcia

Over the last few years, Murcia has become an area of atraction for foreign immigrants, to the extent that, nowadays, one out of ten inhabitants, up to a total of one hundred thousand people, are foreign immigrants. We should bear in mind that most immigrants are young and, among them, some groups are characterised by having many children. Spanish laws require that all children under sixteen have to be schooled, the phenomenon of foreign immigrant schooling has an enourmous interest for some towns and villages in the Region of Murcia. In this paper, we present some of the features that define the schooling of the sons and daughters of foreign immigrants -about fifteen thousand primary and secondary school students-, and the territorial distribution of the immigration-schooling phenomenon in the Región of Murcia.En los últimos años la Región de Murcia se ha convertido en un área de atracción de inmigrantes extranjeros, que superan los valores de uno por cada diez habitantes, y el total de cien mil inmigrantes extranjeros. Si tenemos en cuenta que es una inmigración joven, dónde algunos de sus colectivos presenta elevado número de hijos/as, y que la legislación española obliga a la escolarización de todos los menores de dieciséis años; el fenómeno de la escolarización de inmigrantes extranjeros tiene un enorme interés en algunos municipios y pedanías de la Región de Murcia. En este trabajo se presentan algunos de los rasgos que definen la escolarización de los hijos e hijas de los inmigrantes extranjeros, cuyo número ronda los quince mil escolares y estudiantes, y la distribución territorial del fenómeno de inmigración-escolarización en la Región de Murcia
