Most of the faunal remains from Pena d'Água show some degree of physical or chemical alteration caused by water. As a consequence, cut marks could not be analysed; the presence of this bone assemblage in the archaeological record can only be explained, however, as a result of human activity. The species so far identified are domestic goat and sheep, red dear, wild boar, bovids and rabbit. Birds and carnivores (wolf) are also represented, but, as with rabbits, their anthropic origin can not be demonstrated. Domestic sheep and goat are present in all layers.
