. We realize a comparative analysis of the internationalization degree and strategic behavior followed by Spanish and American firms. We use a sample of 316 non-financial firms (1991-1997), 158 Spanish firms and 158 American firms that are homogeneous in size and industry. We obtain that American firms have a higher degree of international diversification, but the proportion of International Spanish firms is greater. Moreover, Spanish firms are in an international expansion process whilst this expansion is stable for American firms.
