Today, Korean funeral culture tends to prefer cremation to burial. The rate of the cremation has increased rapidly from 33% in 2000 to 65% in 2009. Increasing the rate, in the law on funeral and the like that established in 2001, it requires that each of local autonomous entity must build facilities for local society and supervise it as a duty.
