This paper provides the method to construct the preventative maintenance(PM) policy for the engineering system using the data mining. Most engineering systems undergo degradation due to abrasion and aging. Such degradation causes the system to increase failures. The data mining predicts the failure code for the engineering system by classifying the attribute, symptom and failure data of the engineering system. When the method presented in this study is applied, the PM policy could be systematic and realistic. An empirical case is presented to discuss the suggested approach
