Assessment of Indoor Volatile Organic Compounds & Formaldehyde Emission Characteristics in New Apartments with the Effectuation of the Indoor Air Quality Law

This study evaluated the indoor air quality in 567 new apartment houses in Korea from February 2006 to November 2009. Environmentally sound finishing materials were used in every households. The results of experiments, toluene concentration showed the average value of 478 mg/���, and maximum value of 2,639 mg/��� in total experiments period. Formaldehyde concentration showed average value of 114.5 mg/���, and maximum value of 799.3 mg/���. But benzene, ethylbenzene, xylene, styrene showed the average 4.9 mg/���, 73.1 mg/���, 124.4 mg/���, 44.1 mg/��� are satisfied to guideline. In this study indoor VOCs concentration at each environmental conditions were assessed by taking into account temperature, humidity, house area. Concentrations of toluene and formaldehyde increased as indoor temperature and humidity increased, not relation to house area
