An experimental and numerical study was conducted to investigate the effect of the nozzle layout on the combustion and emission characteristics for stoichiometric diesel combustion. In order to improve fuel-air mixing, a new concept of nozzle layout was studied. The nozzle has two spray angles, one heading for the bowl and the other targeting the squish area (two-spray-angle nozzle (2SAN)). The spray included angles of the nozzle layout are 150 degrees (upper holes) and 70 degrees (lower holes), and the start-of-injection timings were swept from -33 degrees to -9 degrees after top dead centre.
