A formal synthesis of komaroviquinone has been accomplished by utilizing the Pt-catalyzed hydrative cyclization of an enynal that was easily prepared in a convergent manner. The Pt-catalyzed hydrative cyclization reaction afforded the corresponding tricyclic product, which was utilized in the synthesis of a known precursor that led to the formation of komaroviquinone through an additional four-step synthesis.This work was supported by a grant from the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF), funded by the Korean Government, through the Center for New Directions in Organic Synthesis (2014-011165)
