Gewebeerwärmungen, die durch dieWechselwirkung zwischen länglichen Elektroden medizinischer Implantate und den Radiofrequenzfeldern (RF) von Magnetresonanztomographen (MRT) hervorgerufen werden, sind im Bereich der MRT Kompatibilität dieser Implantate von großem Belang. Das elektromagnetische RF-Feld induziert Ströme entlang der Elektroden, die besonders in der Umgebung der Elektrodenkontakte zu gefährlichen Verbrennungen des Gewebes führen können. Die Intensität dieser Gewebeerwärmung hängt sowohl von den Elektrodeneigenschaften, wie z.B. ihrer Geometrie, den Gewebeeigenschaften, als auch der Feldexposition und dessen Frequenz ab.
