Scientific research on photonic quantum technologies is on the rise to find applications in our everyday life. Many different material systems have been analyzed in the last two decades and have at the same time developed a fundamental understanding of the manifold nature of quantum phenomena observed on the single qubit, in photonics specifically the single photon. It is now inevitable for the aspired applications to develop solutions in the nanoscale solid-state, the material system which embodies the majority of modern technological concepts.
