Investigation of acrylic based ink systems for 3D-PolyJet printing

New technologies are enabling us to enjoy increasingly better standards of living. They are bringing about alterations in the areas of culture and politics and have also had a profound influence on other areas such as the economy and medicine. One of the most important of these technologies is 3D printing. Even private customers can now enjoy its benefits in their own homes and, what is more, create new models for themselves. Another noteworthy technology, which has applications to 3D printing, is foamed plastics. These materials are essential to both the automotive and construction industries. We even use them when we wash dishes. This masters thesis deals with the applications of foaming in the manufacture of acrylic inks that are used in 3D printing. It is a part of the «DIgital MAterials for 3D Priniting» (DIMAP) project (a project funded under the scheme of the Horizon 2020 program of the European Union) aimed at developing novel ink materials for 3D multi-material printing. It is one of the goals that these materials be light-weight. By using polymers to make them, the weight of the printed objects can be reduced without any loss in their material stability. An even greater reduction in the weight of solid polymeric objects can be achieved by using foams and foamlike polymers. Although these are very lightweight, they have high mechanical load capacities. In the course of the work on this thesis, more than 100 samples were examined.
