International audienceBy focusing on the notion of event in the field of health and illness, the aim of this issue, which I edited in 2012, is to illustrate its heuristic character. Illness events, both individual and collective, from the simplest to the most complex, seem to particularly lend themselves to the examination of the very notion of event as well as to that of its epistemological status within the social sciences. According to Marc Augé (1983), disease represents one of the elementary forms of the event. Even if it is inscribed in the biological, its interpretation is eminently social.
