Over the last 40 years, there has been a consistent increase in the proportion of females in the dentistry profession. Previous research has demonstrated that gender differences exist in choice of specialization, practice patterns, and professional attitudes; revealing that females are often attracted to primary care management ahead of other dental specialties. Female Saudi dentists, working in the governmental sector, tend to occupy lower positions in the occupational hierarchy, are paid less, and are less likely to hold consultant positions than males.
