Note:The goal of this study was to examine the cognitive development of children raised in a home with a psychiatrically ill mother. In addition, the role of maternal social support on children's cognitive development was investigated and the patterns of maternal social support were observed. Participants included two groups of mothers (n=60), those with and without psychiatric disorders, having children ages 3 to 36 months. The findings suggest that children who have mothers with psychiatric disorders have lower developmental indexes than normal controls. In addition, at-risk children in low socially supportive environments experienced greater developmental lags than children in the experimental group with high social support. […]L'objet d...
