Note:R.H. Charles, although he rejected apostolic authorship for the Apocalypse, nonetheless argued forcefully that its author was a Jewish-Christian. The three lines of argument he employed have been challenged on an individual basis, but his overall conclusion regarding John's ethnic background has enjoyed almost unanimous acceptance. Part I of this dissertation demonstrates that there is virtually nothing in the subject-matter or literary form of Revelation which could be termed distinctively Jewish or Jewish-Christian.
