Includes bibliographical references (leaves 178-191).An interfacial method was developed in order to investigate the role lipids might play in haemozoin biosynthesis. Infrared and X-ray diffraction measurements demonstrated that β-haematin, a synthetic counterpart of haemozoin, forms efficiently at pentanol/water, octanol/water and lipid/water interfaces, but to a lesser extent at toluene/water interface under physiological conditions of pH and temperature and does not form at all in the absence of the interface
