It comprises the southern extents of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans. The Antarctic continent forms the southern boundary of the Southern Ocean, while the northern border is not physiographically fixed, but is usually considered to coincide with the geographic location of the Subtropical Convergence (STC) (Lutjeharms 1985). The unique geography of the Southern Ocean makes it the only place where ocean currents run completely around the globe
