Bacterial pathogens causing diseases in fishes have broad host ranges, and may cause high mortality or ongoing chronic infections. Pathogen treatments using antibiotics are becoming limited due to increasing concerns for the development of resistance and environmental dissemination of bacteria harboring resistance genes.
