These data, in combination with other anatomical features taken from the literature, have led to a reassessment of interrelationships within the Euteleostei. This review supports the notions that the Salmoniformes, Aulopiformes, Myctophiformes, and Beryciformes are nonmonophyletic and raises questions about the monophyly of the fishes formerly grouped in the Osmeroidei.
