9 p. : map ; 24 cm."Winter range and migration season in Polynesia of seven species of shore birds have been determined. They are characteristic for each of the species. Of the three circumpolar species, only the golden plover is common throughout the Pacific. The turnstone and the sanderling have restricted winter ranges. The American wandering tattler, although nesting in in the Americas (Alaska), winters primarily in Polynesia. Breeding range and winter range of the bristle-thighed curlew are geographically restricted. Non-breeding individuals of nearly all the species are found in their winter ranges during the northern summer months"--P. 9
