Carmen Boullosa presents a critique of modern Mexican society in her novels and play through the construction of multidimensional characters. Her protagonists function as voices for a new consideration of traditional female figures and provide a viable approach to understanding the role of the twentieth century Mexican woman. The main focus of this dissertation is to describe how three of Carmen Boullosa\u27s novels and one play provide a new vision for the role of the contemporary Mexican woman.
