The term “expectancy” in the alcohol literature is commonly referred to as the anticipated effects of alcohol use. The present investigation had three goals. The first goal was to examine the validity of the expectancy concept with Mexican American college students (N = 107). The second goal was to investigate how different aspects of acculturative status are systematically associated with alcohol use and drinking expectancies in this population. The third goal was to examine whether the relations between acculturative status and alcohol use and drinking expectancies are similar for men and women.
