Objective: The NALP3 inflammasome functions as a sensor of danger signals and triggers processing and release of IL-1b. Mutations of NALP3 are responsible for the cryopyrin associated periodic syndromes, a group of autoinflammatory disorders that respond to IL1 inhibition. Genetic studies have also linked NALP3 to hypertension in man, but the mechanism is not understood.
