Phymaturus vociferator is described as a new species of iguanian lizard, from central-southern Chile, related to P. verdugo from Peteroa Volcano region, Malargüe, Mendoza Province. The only known population comes from El Refugio, Laguna del Laja, in Antuco Volcano mountains, about 1700 m, close to the Argentinean frontier, in the Andean region of the Bio Bio Region. Morphological characters, pattern of coloration, and their isolated distribution, separate this new taxon from the other species of the genus.
