Graduation date: 1988Measurement of physical and chemical solute transport\ud properties of a soil/waste system is necessary to predict\ud pollutant migration in soils. The adsorption component of\ud solute transport is most often determined in the laboratory\ud by performing column studies and batch equilibrium tests.\ud Both of these methods suffer from disadvantages. Batch\ud equilibrium tests performed with dilute solids concentrations overestimate the sorption distribution coefficient due\ud to the solids effect and column studies with fine grained\ud soils require a long period of time to conduct.
