Graduation date: 1989This paper describes the design and implementation of\ud COLAN V, a High Performance Local Area Network for\ud Communications and Control utilizing a Communications Coprocessor.\ud The main objective of this thesis is to improve upon\ud the performance of previous COLANs in speed, switching\ud techniques and error detection techniques. This was\ud possible due to excellent capabilities of INTEL's 8344 a\ud microcontroller with high performance serial interface unit\ud (SIU).
