En 2010 Thomson lanzó un nuevo índice de citas dedicado a los libros: el Book citation index. Esta nueva base de datos ha abierto nuevas posibilidades para el análisis bibliométrico de campos como las humanidades y las ciencias sociales. Sin embargo debido a su juventud aún sabemos poco sobre su cobertura y especialmente de los editores científicos que se han tenido en cuenta en su elaboración. Se analiza la cobertura por países, idiomas, concentración editorial y una comparación con el producto español Scholarly publishers indicators (SPI), del CCHS/CSIC.
