Transcription and Analysis Methods in Ethnomusicology

MUSICAL TRANSCRIPTION AND MUSICAL analysis are used as specifics tools in the etnomusicological work and they should be included in its methodology: etnomusicology differs from the mere cultural studies. Since we cannot say everything about a particular type of music, in this analysis we will have to select some of its characteristic topics. These topics should be previously reflected within the transcriptions we have made. Transcription and analysis, in this order, go together in Ethnomusicology. The application of the concept of constructive pertinency to the fandangos of southern Spain. Fandangos are a privileged case of the Flamenco world. There are two types of fandangos: pre-flamencos fandangos and flamenco ones. Therefore, we have to be able to distinguish them in order to compare them and see the evolution from the pre-flamencos fandangos to the flamenco ones.LA TRANSCRIPCIÓN Y EL ANÁLISIS MUSICAL son instrumentos específicos del trabajo etnomusicológico y como tales han de venir integrados en su metodología, distinta a la de los meros estudios culturales. Puesto que no se puede decir “todo” de una música, en el análisis habremos de seleccionar algunos de sus rasgos característicos. Éstos han de haber quedado reflejados ya (de alguna manera) en las transcripciones que hayamos realizado. Transcripción y análisis, así, van de la mano en etnomusicología. La aplicación del concepto de “pertinencia constructiva” a los fandangos del sur de España. Los fandangos ofrecen un caso privilegiado en el mundo del Flamenco: contamos con fandangos “preflamencos” y flamencos.
