The Missouri River from Gavins Point Dam to Ponca State Park, Nebraska, is one of the few remaining relatively natural, braided reaches of the Missouri River. The Corps of Engineers and the Heritage, Conservation, and Recreation Service have investigated public concerns related to streambank erosion control and recreational development along this river reach. Two plans were initially considered and one was selected for detailed study. The selected plan consists of development of the river reach as a recreation river under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.
