The delta-ray theory of the inactivation of cells by energetic heavy ions describes cellular survival after heavy ion bombardment through a two-component survival model, in which 4 operational parameters (E0,m0, σ0, and κ) describe the response of a particular cellular variety in a particular ambient condition, for an arbitrary radiation environment. The quantities m and E0 are the extrapolation number and extrapolated D-37 dose of the survival curve after gamma-ray irradiation.
