Digital Divide: Bridging the Gap through ICT in Nigerian Libraries

For Nigerian libraries to fully use available opportunities arising from the use of emerging digital technologies, and contend with the challenges offered by globalization in a rapidly changing information society like ours, the use of ICT must be given top priority. The widening imbalances of access to ICT has resulted in inequitable access to ICTs and other internet-related technologies associated with the provision and use of information services in Nigerian libraries. These imbalances have implication for quality information service delivery in Nigerian libraries. It is in this context that, this paper, discusses the need to bridge the gap through adequate use of ICT. Agreeably, the digital divide phenomenon pervades in every activity associated with the provision of library and information services in Nigerian libraries.
