In veterinary medicine as in human medicine, practitioners are required to make complex diagnostic, therapeutic or preventive decisions. The concept of evidence-based medicine (EBM) was first developed in human medicine in the early 1990s to help the decision-making process, and refers to the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best research evidence for the care of patients.
