Estudio de correlación entre tres pruebas de rastreo cognitivo en población sin deterioro cognitivo

Cognitive screening tests allow assessing a patient’s comprehensive mental status briefly. Mini-Mental State Examination test —MMSE— is the most used instrument; however, this test has some inconveniences for clinical usage since it does not provide adequate accuracy and specificity when detecting cognitive impairment, hence, causing misdiagnosis. On the other hand, Rapid Assessment of Cognitive Functions (RACF) test —NEUROPSI especially—, offers broader measurement options than the Mini-Mental, thus, overcoming the aforementioned flaws. The aim of this study was to determine any possible correlation among these screening tests. The tests were applied to 118 subjects without cognitive impairment. Positive correlations were found between NEUROPSI and MMSE, RACF and MMSE, and NEUROPSI and RACF. The presence of positive correlations among the three screening tests suggests the option of implementing NEUROPSI and RACF as alternatives to MMSE in the assessment of cognitive impaired patients.Las pruebas de detección cognitiva permiten evaluar brevemente el estado mental integral del paciente. El examen de examen de estado mini-mental -MMSE- es el instrumento más utilizado; Sin embargo, esta prueba tiene algunos inconvenientes para el uso clínico, ya que no proporciona una precisión y especificidad adecuadas al detectar un deterioro cognitivo, lo que causa un diagnóstico erróneo. Por otro lado, la prueba de Evaluación Rápida de Funciones Cognitivas (RACF), especialmente NEUROPSI, ofrece opciones de medición más amplias que la Mini-Mental, superando las fallas mencionadas anteriormente. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar cualquier posible correlación entre estas pruebas de detección. Las pruebas se aplicaron a 118 sujetos sin deterioro cognitivo. Se encontraron correlaciones positivas entre NEUROPSI y MMSE, RACF y MMSE, y NEUROPSI y RACF. La presencia de correlaciones positivas entre las tres pruebas de detección sugiere la opción de implementar NEUROPSI y RACF como alternativas al MMSE en la evaluación de pacientes con deterioro cognitivo
