Earth's lithosphere, which is the upper boundary layer of mantle convection, represents the interface between the external and internal envelopes of our Planet. The multiple interactions between the mantle and lithosphere generate lateral (plate tectonics) and vertical (dynamic topography) deformations of Earth's surface.
