International audienceThe economic and social space of theatres experienced radical transformation as early as the mid-18th century, and with the abolition of the crown’s theatre privilege continued to evolve during the French Revolution. New actors, coming either directly to the stage or moving to it from other professional activities, were embracing a theatrical career, bringing about constant change to the profile of this socio-professional group. This article explores the ways in which artists performing in provincial theatres evolved socially, professionally, and geographically from the last third of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century. It focuses particularly on changes in career and social class taking place in the western Loire river valley.L’espace économique et social des théâtres connaît de fortes mutations dès le milieu XVIIIe siècle et évolue bientôt encore en Révolution avec la suppression du privilège monarchique des spectacles. L’entrée dans la carrière de nouveaux artistes, venus directement à la scène ou passés par d’autres activités, modifie de manière constante les contours de tout un groupe socio-professionnel. Cet article se propose de questionner la mobilité sociale, professionnelle et géographique des artistes de théâtre en province dans le dernier tiers du XVIIIe siècle et au début du XIXe siècle, et notamment les phénomènes de reconversion et de reclassement à l’œuvre dans l’Ouest ligérien de la France
