International audienceAmong the methods of law used during the classical period are conventionally retained the two forms of the mos italicus and the mos gallicus. It is however not possible to understand the transition from the medieval jurisprudence to the rationalistic jurisprudence of the seventeenth century if we consider only these two methodological traditions, because they do not forward the premises on which the jurisprudence of Grotius and Pufendorf will be built. Another tradition was fraùed from the works of the authors of the second scholasticism, and in particular from those of Diego de Covarrubias, which initiated in conjonction with Vasquez Menchaca the movement of rationalist humanism.
