Muscle wasting is often associated with mitochondria (mt) alterations and autophagy is required for muscle mass maintenance through the elimination of defective mitochondria. Tibialis anterior (TA) and gastrocnemius (GA) rat muscles exhibit different mitochondria-associated apoptotic responses to immobilization and recovery (1).
