Large-scale 3D numerical simulations of complex flows, such as turbulent ones, often imply a huge computation time for an acceptable accuracy level in an industrial context. To reduce this time, one may iteratively adapt the discretization of the domain (or mesh) to the error of the solution in order to reduce the required number of points, and resort to parallelism to absorb the involved workload. However it is not trivial to adapt this kind of algorithms to take advantage of recent parallel architectures capabilities.
