The study of the production and consumption processes of brick in the medieval and post-medieval periods highlights the central role played by this building material in Siena\u2019s urban development. The introduction of bricks in urban constructions dates to the second half and the end of the 12th century. Their use expanded in the 13th century, until they became dominant at the start of the 14th century. Metrological analyses carried out on bricks used in buildings between the end of the 12th and the early 19th century have enabled a mensiochronological curve of the city to be verified and implemented.
