The paper presents an overview of the results obtained by using a newly developed flame based deposition technique to fabricate SOFC components. Gadolinia doped ceria (20% mol gadolinia), yttria stabilised zirconia (8% mol yttria) and samarium strontium cobaltite (50% at Sm) ceramics have been deposited on various substrates, including SOFC anode materials and half cells. Thin and dense electrolyte layers having thicknesses in the range of 100 nm to 2 mm have been successfully fabricated. Porous cathode layers deposited on half cell substrates have shown a 25-30% increase in performance compared to samaria doped ceria - samarium strontium cobaltite screen printed cathodes tested in the same conditions.Peer reviewed: YesNRC publication: Ye
