The essay examines some of the intertextualities of the Gerusalemme liberata, with a specific attention to biblical, patristic and liturgical sources. Starting from this methodological choice, the essay examines the episodes of Olindo and Sofronia and the vicissitudes of the female character of Erminia. The essay will also make a careful reading of the verses that introduce the narration of Clorinda’s death, recognizing once more, through the intertextual study, the deepness of Tasso’s poetry cultural references. Also a passage from the Gerusalemme conquistata will be analysed, to underline the great knowledge of patristic works acquired by Torquato Tasso after the writing of the Liberata
