It is generally accepted that cell-mediated immunity is responsible for contact dermatitis, but controversy still exists about the involvement of Type IV immune-reactions in other clinical manifestations following inhalant, oral and parenteral administration of penicillin and semi-synthetic penicillin or cephalosporins.
