Classification and information systems

The Web today provides the general public with coexisting means of access to an endless variety of information (indexes, thesauruses, ontologies, authority lists, folksonomies, hierarchical classifications, faceted classification). After a brief overview of the use of classification systems as an access and navigation tool, we discuss approaches that give priority to the organisation of results by theme. We then look into the contribution of information mapping to explore and model different points of view on a corpus of documents.Le Web offre actuellement au grand public une coexistence des modes d’accès à l’information les plus diversifiés (index, thésaurus, ontologies, listes d’autorité, folksonomies, classifications hiérarchiques, classifications à facettes). Après un rappel sur l’usage des classifications comme outil d’accès et de navigation, nous discuterons des approches privilégiant une organisation thématique des résultats. Nous examinerons ensuite l’apport des cartographies de l’information pour l’exploration et la modélisation des points de vue sur un corpus documentaire
