BATIK PRING DESA SIDOMUKTI (Studi Nilai Budaya dan Perkembangan Kerajinan Batik di Kabupaten Magetan)

The objective of research was to answer the problems about: (1) the development of Batik Craft in Magetan Regency, (2) the attempts the Magetan Local Government takes to maintain the existence of Batik Pring in Magetan Regency. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method that is ethnographic in nature using A Single Embedded Case strategy and the strategi of this research was meaning that the target to be studied is limited to and concentrated in a location. Ethnographic research method attempt to search the data with multiple interviews with some informants. The analysistechnique used was an interactive analysis one constituting the cycle process encompassing three main components: data reduction or selection, display and conclusion drawing. Considering the result of research: (1) Batik Craft in Sidomukti Village has developed for a long time within the society. Since then, batik faced fluctuation. Although limited to some people, it becomes the heritage from generation to generation passed down to their respective offspring. This batik ever disappeared for several decades. It reemerged only in 1970s but with different motive, bamboo motive or frequently called Pring Sedapur motive. This motive is inspired from the state of village where this batik emergedin Papringan hamlet on which so many bamboo trees still grow. From this, the motives of batik Pring Sidomukti are basically bamboo collaborated with other motives such as garuda, cucak rowo, flowers, dragon and animals as plants existing widely around Lawu Mountain. Now there are 21 motives. Batik circulating today is not only jarik (lower cloth) as the kebayacouple, but owing to designers’ creativity, many kinds of shirts, t-shirts, skirts, trousers, bed cover, tablecloth, pillow sheath and even small things develop. (2) The government of Magetan Regency has done many things to maintain the existence of Batik in Magetan Regency. One ofthem is to release a regulation requiring the Civil Servant and staffs of Regency office to wear batik. Batik that should be worn is the typical Magetan batik, batik pring of Sidomukti Village for Friday and free batik every Thursday. In addition, in order to maintain the existence of batik and to make Batik Pring as the typical Magetan batik, the government has registered it in Patent Institution. The government through industry and trade department gives training to batik crafters regeneration and gives capital grant in the form of both money and printing machine. The government of Magetan Regency also helps in the terms of promotion including via printed media such as news paper and magazine, electronic mediasuch as Blog, Facebook and twitter, and direct promotion by wearing batik cloth in every official occasion, like during traveling to other area and also giving souvenir to the guests coming to Magetan Regency in the form of pring batik
