Paul Knie Collection 1903-1952

This collection contains the vital documents of Paul Knie and his parents, Katharina and Rubin Knie. The documents reflect life in pre-World War II Austria, followed by emigration papers necessitated by the Anschluss, and resettlement in the United States including military service. Paul Knie served in the United States Army as a medic during World War II and became an optometrist. Witsell, Major General (1950); letter indicating that Paul Knie is entitled to numerous military awares (1951); Certificate of Achievement, indicating that First Lieutenant P. Knie performed his military duties (1952); Certificate of Nationalization issued for Rubin George Knie (1952).Paul Knie was born on 8/1/1920 in Vienna, Austria. He finished school in Austria wirth the "Matura" at a Jewish school. in 12/1938 he emigrated to Belgium and later to the USA, where he arrived on 2/22/1940. Afer he joined the US Army in the States, he became an optometrist.
